Aidan and the Train

Aidan loves wooden train sets, and we got him the discount version for Christmas, the set doesn’t have a permanent home yet. He is also starting to speak in a mixture of Chinese, English, Grunts and Screams. He walks, runs, stands on one leg, climbs on stuff, and is very good at copying our actions. More of an update to come after his 18 month check-up in January.

Halloween 2009

It rained here for most of the evening so Aidan was stuck inside with use, but he still has a blast on Saturday, he loved seeing all the other kids in the neighborhood out in their costumes. Once he saw what I was doing he also helped hand out candy, even when the kids didn’t want more candy Aidan grunted at them until they took some more. We were worried that he would refuse to wear the lion mane cap, but he loved it and wore his costume for three and a half hours. He managed to get his first taste of chocolate when he managed to chew through the wrapper of a Nestle Crunch bar that a neighbor gave him.

The camera came out for the first time in a month and we caught enough shenanigans for four or five videos. Here is the first, not only the first time that Aidan dumped his toys out of this large salad bowl, but also the first time he climbed in. Stick around for the end to see Aidan’s first solo use of a step stool.

Head Bump

Even the happiest kid have a bad day, or for Aidan a bad thirty seconds. Don’t worry he was happy and playing less than a minute after these pictures.

Aidan’s first football

In honor of the Redskins’ seasoner open against the NY Giants, we bought him his first football to go along with wearing his first official jersey (Chris Cooley of course). The Redskins lost, but Cooley did catch a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

Aidan Dancing

Aidan loves to dance, sometimes he dances so hard that he falls over.  I hope to catch the falling over on video some day, but until then here is a bit of dancing.  There is also a bit of Aidan copying his mom and cleaning the floor.  The camera work is a bit shaky, but then Aidan won’t hold still for more than a second at a time for me to film him.

Weight: 22lbs 14oz – 52nd percentile
Length: 30.7 inches – 79th percentile
Head Circumference: 19.4 inches – 95th percentile

Aidan continues to grow and learn, he is doing something new every day. He is a strong crawler and is almost able to keep up with Murray. He can walk as long as he has something to hold on to and is starting to stand unassisted for up to ten seconds at a time. That first step still looks to be weeks or months away (thank goodness). He is also trying to assert his independence by yelling when we take toys away, going limp when he wants to get down, and continuing in forbidden activities after we tell him no. He does understand no, but is just as likely to almost touch the trash can to get us to say no (then laugh) as he is to listen and move on to making a mess with something else. He continue to add to his tricks and can wave on command, touch his ear when asked too, climb the stairs (figured that one out on his own), bang two cups together, throw a ball, and intentionally turn the light of the fan on with the remote control. He is starting to be interested in books and has taken an interest in rearranging any furniture that is light enough for him to move.

He came down with a cold a day before our doctor visit, but that did not stop them from giving him his immunizations. Strange that as I look back at the last MD Appointment update Aidan was also sick. He isn’t sick all that often, but for maximum annoyance to his parents he apparently gets sick around the time of his doctor visits. This time around he managed to get both Katherine and I sick as well. He is also starting to resist taking naps as his body moves to only needing one nap a day, in the meantime nap time is a huge struggle.

Aidan’s first forward facing drive

We had to turn the car seat around to prevent Aidan’s legs from becoming permanently bowed. The video isn’t action packed, but it is amusing to see how intent he is on taking everything in. Before we turned the seat around he was yelling most of the time in the car because he was so uncomfortable.

Aidan and the Cups

I have still not convinced Aidan to clap, but as you can see he is very good at banging things together. He is also pretending to drink water in the video, this is the first time that I have seen him do that. I grabbed the camcorder to try to get him throwing his ball with both hands, but he wasn’t cooperating on that one. Hopefully I can catch that soon, as well as Aidan helping me to play the guitar.
